Jay DeMerit; the movie

If you don’t know Jay DeMerit’s story, you soon will. A genuine rags-to-riches footy tale, DeMerit went from an unknown American journeyman to captain of Watford in the English Premier League. DeMerit’s Hornets beat my hometown Leeds United in the 2006 promotion final in Cardiff, condemning the proud Yorkshire side to another four years of lower league obscurity. DeMerit himself scored a crushing goal.

Now a documentary about his rise to fame has been created. Its makers are finding a way to monetize the project, hoping for it to catch on in the mainstream. As you can see from the trailer, it is very compelling, and I for one would love to see this hit theaters. Now playing in Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps FC, DeMerit has established himself as one of the top players in the U.S. National Team player pool. Here’s a bit more on his story and the movie itself.
