West Coast swing

The last time I was in Portland for a competitive match was in July of 2009 for a Premier Development League postseason thriller. I’ve seen several contests at the artist formerly known as PGE Park, but not since the stadium’s recent renovation. Now known as JELD-WEN Field, the home of the Portland Timbers has been lauded as one of the premier soccer venues in the United States. The club’s atmosphere was legendary even in the second division, and now in MLS Portland’s fans are even more impressive. I’m always excited for a return trip to the Pacific Northwest, so this will be a good trip.

We’re staying on the West Coast for a week following the Portland match on May 29, as the club plays at Los Angeles on Friday, June 3. I’m looking forward to being back at the Home Depot Center for the third time, and the SoCal vistas never disappoint (see below). For fans in D.C. the Portland match can be seen on Comcast SportsNet, and the Galaxy game will be televised nationally on Fox Soccer.
